Mama Moment: Speaking Milestones.

Most little kids have those words they say incorrectly, but it's so darn cute you don't want to correct them. When Leila was little she used to call coffee "foffee". It was so flipping cute and I never told her it was actually called coffee. One day out of the blue she called it coffee. I was kinda heartbroken.

Gianna loves blankets. She's always been a blankets over stuffed animals girl (Leila's the opposite) and since she could talk she's called them "byup-byups."  The way she said it was so sweet. About a week ago she asked me for her blanket. I was confused. "You want your byup-byup, Coco?"  "No, mama. Blanket please." Heartbroken all over again.

I guess it makes me a little sad because it feels like their babyhood is slipping away so quickly. I know I don't want them going through life saying words wrong, but man it sucks when they say them right the first time. Tony totally doesn't get why it upsets me. Maybe it's a mom thing.

Oh, well. Leila still calls turquoise "turk-ta-poise" and Coco still calls coffee "hoffee." I'm not ever correcting them and am holding onto those little bits of babyhood as long as I can.

Do (did?) your kids have any silly, little words they say?

Your girls are so adorable! Yes, I can relate - my daughter used to say squirrel as "squir-re-al" (not sure how to type that) and it was awesome. I hated when she finally got the hang of the word!

Love that and I get sad when my 6 year old starts saying things correctly too! He says "begainst" instead of against and I smile very time he does it. :)

It is totally a mama thing! I love it! My son always called toy guns, "pew sticks" (???) and my daughter always puts a b in front of all words, like "bdorable", "b-scusting", "b-puter". So so cute!

I don't correct my girls either, it is just so cute. Kevin always corrects them though. I need to start writing down the words they mess up, there are a lot!

whenever this happens, i wish for that pause button, so that i can hold on just a little bit longer to them being little. NOT ready for mine to get bigger either and having a hard time excepting that kyan is 3/4 my size! as lola would say it is "too fair!" (not fair)!

your girls are adorable! hang on to their sweet little words for as long as you can!

I still get teased to this day about calling a bikini a "fa-tinki" or my canopy bed a "can-o-peas." I also thought that two beds stacked on top of each other was called a "bonk" bed. Who knew! Haha

I'm totally with you on this one friend. I feel like the older the kids get the more they start saying those cute words correctly. Makes me so sad because it's just one more reminder that time is going by way to fast and before you know it, Katelyn's going to be saying, "walk me down the aisle daddy." UGH, makes me cry just writing that.

My two-year-old niece is in love with Sleeping Beauty, but she calls her "Sleeping Dooey." We won't be correcting her, either. :) Your little girlies are SO CUTE!

I love this post. My husband is always wanting to correct the kids and I always fight it because I love their little mispronunciations. It's like the last shred of babyhood!

YES!!! You're speaking my Mama language. William and I were *just* talking about this the other day...he also likes to correct E. Must be a dad thing?! I miss it that he doesn't say "unders" {underwear} or "moo-J" for movie. It is such a short window when they say the cutest substations for words!!
