A stinky adventure and a small miracle

Leila and I were having a lazy morning so we decided to go and visit my parents. I parked where I normally park, got Leila out of her seat, and for the first time since I've been driving dropped my keys down the sewer drain. My stomach sank. I went in and handed Leila to my mom, while my dad and I looked down the drain with a flashlight. We couldn't see the keys and it smelled funky! I called the police non-emergency line, and they sent a City of Pleasanton worker over to see what he could do. Since I was parked over the damn drain getting the drain cover off was going to be a problem. My mom has a key to my car, but it will only unlock the doors - you need the key with the microchip to start the car up...the key that was down the drain. I decided it couldn't hurt to give it a try, and my car started up and we were able to get it off of the sewer drain. I turned off the car (shocked that it actually started!) and tried turning it on again - nothing happened! I tried again and again, but nothing happened - it only started that one time. Call it a coincidence, but I'm calling it a miracle.

So, two city workers later and they finally got the drain cover off, but couldn't find the keys. My dad got out his rake and found it after three tries. Tomorrow I am going to Mitsubishi and getting new keys made.
