Getting personal

A couple of weeks ago we found out that my mom has uterine cancer.

TODAY she is having a full hysterectomy. Her doctor is hopeful that by removing everything he can eliminate all of the cancer, but she still may need chemo and radiation.

If you are the praying type, please pray. If not, please send my mom any good thoughts you can. Please pray that the surgery removes all the cancer. Please pray that it hasn't spread. Please pray for her doctors. Please pray for a swift recovery.

At this point, I don't know what to do besides ask for  prayers and well-wishes. (I appreciate them more than you know!)

If you want to leave her a little note in the comments section, please feel free to. My mom reads this blog more than anyone, and I know would love reading them.

As always, thanks for all of your support and for being a Glitter and Gloss reader. xo!

**UPDATE** Unfortunately the biopsy results were not what we were hoping for. The cancer spread to her lymph nodes and the doctors are categorizing it as stage three (although apparently anything in or touching even one lymph node is automatically categorized as stage three) She will begin chemo in the next couple of weeks. If you could keep her in your thoughts and prayers that would be great!

I'll be saying a prayer for your mom! I had a hysterectomy this past September at 34 years old. I'll also pray for her healing. I know it takes a while to recuperate even without the worry of cancer ;(

So many prayers being offered up! I seriously got down on my knees and lifted her in prayer, for the surgeons hands to be skillful, for their minds to be focused, for her body to respond to any treatment needed and for a wave a peace to come crashing down on your entire family.

I woke up this morning & thought of your mom, knowing that today is surgery day. Praying that God will guide the doctor's hands during the surgery and that ALL of the cancer will be GONE. Praying peace for your mom, dad, you and the rest of your family as you wait for the results. May our God of healing HEAL your momma!!!

Hi Heather,
Just saw your post. Actually the ribbon caught my eye, because I know it's for cervical cancer. You don't hear a lot about cervical cancer, because if it's caught in time, it's one of those cancers that aren't as life threatening or scary (to everyone else that isn't dealing with it). My sister was diagnosed to CC stage 3b. As a registered nurse, I knew it wasn't a good prognosis. It was a half step away from being spread to another organ. She went through Chemo and Radiation for 6 weeks, and we thought it was gone. Then she started having problems walking, which was from a blood clot, and then we found out the cancer came back, but was attached around her kidney area. For some reason, I wasn't quite sure where it was, but that's not the point of this right now. She went through some more Chemo and Radiation, and went through A LOT of pain. Eventually, it spread to other areas, and there was nothing that they could do. She died a month after she turned 29. Angie was my only sibling and two years younger than me. I know what you and your family are going through. Even though I lost my sister, my belief in God has become stronger. It doesn't make sense, but it doesn't have to right now. Sometimes being mad and angry at God comes out in these situations, and I don't know how spiritual you are. I will pray for your fam, and it looks like it's been almost a week, so i hope we hear some good news soon. It sounds like they caught it early. I wish they would have just taken my sister's parts out at the beginning, but having children was a concern. She got engaged on Halloween the year she was diagnosed, which would have been January 2010. I think one of the things that helped my sister, is that we had hope up until the very end, even when it seems to feel hopeless. It is such a hard situation to go through, when a family member could be really sick. I'm glad your mom got to have you before this happened to her. Sometimes this surgery can be hard on a woman, even though logically you could say it saved her life. It's just one of those hard things women go through. If you ever need to talk or ask any questions, even if you think they are dumb-they probably aren't, don't hesitate to ask. I pray with all my heart your mom gets a smooth recovery with good news. PLEASE let us know how it goes.
