BCA 2017 Products

It's no surprise that I love shopping. I'm also a big fan of products that give back, which is why I like to highlight products that give money to various breast cancer charities in the month of October. I lost my Auntie Joy to breast cancer. It's a beast. Many products and companies are guilty of "pink washing" - slapping a pink ribbon on something, but not donating any of their proceeds. These products ACTUALLY give back.

Elemis SUPER SIZED Marine Cream. This beautifully packaged cream retails for $160, but is worth $256. My mom has been using it, and has already seen an improvement in overall moisture and skin texture. Proceeds from this purchase will benefit The Pink Agenda, a not-for-profit organization committed to raising money for breast cancer research and care, as well as awareness of the disease.

This adorable rose gold compass necklace by Modern Citizen. October, $10 from each Going Places Necklace will be donated to Bright Pink.
OneHope California Chardonnay in a limited edition pink glitter bottle, with coasters. I have had this chardonnay and it is fantastic!! And how pretty is it in that bottle?! ONEHOPE works with Gateway for Cancer Research, and every two bottles sold funds a clinical trial for a woman with breast cancer.

During October 2017, Tory Burch will donate 20% from select products to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, up to a maximum of $35,000. If you're going to treat yourself, now is the time!

Le Metier de Beaute Breast Cancer Kaleidoscope. 30% of total sales will be donated to various breast cancer charities within the US.
The Pink Peony illuminating set with brush. Bobbi Brown is one of my favorite lines, and this little set is at the top of my wishlist right now! For every purchase of the set, $11 will be donated to the BCRF
The Pink Print Canvas Tote from Land's End is something I own (I have their BCA bag from a few years back) and it has been put through the wringer, and still looks beautiful! This bag is super sturdy, and better yet anywhere between 15% and 25% of proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. If you choose to get it monogrammed $4.50 of the $6 fee will also be donated!
The season of giving is right around the corner, so whether you plan on doing some giving to yourself, or others, why not shop for a cause? ;)

Luxi House Benefit at Kendra Scott

If you're a long-time blog reader you're probably aware that I'm a huge Kendra Scott fan! I was lucky enough to interview her in 2012, and a quick search of Kendra Scott on my blog shows up lots of posts where I've mentioned her jewelry. But then when I found out that Kendra Scott the person (along with Kendra Scott the company) have a huge heart for philanthropy and give back nearly $3 million dollars every year I fall in love a little more!

I am so excited that one week from today - Wednesday, April 12, 2017 - Kendra Scott, Walnut Creek will be donating 20% of their proceeds to Luxi House and Crossfire Kids. Luxi House is a home dedicated to helping out young mothers. There are over 30,000 babies born to youth in California each year. Many of these births are to mothers who will end up dropping out of school and become dependent upon government assistance. Luxi House also works with Crossfire Kids, who offers advocacy, mentorship, training and family to youth who struggle under the weight of poverty and the disadvantages of lack in every area of life. Their commitment to individual relationships and their foundation in faith equip and inspire children so they are empowered to dismantle generational poverty and disadvantage, and are trained how to live abundantly.

While you're shopping at the Walnut Creek Kendra Scott store, you'll be among the first to see their Summer line, which also launches that day! Helping out, while shopping for gorgeous jewelry?! What more could you possibly ask for?

I hope to see you there!

Breast Cancer Awareness Products 2014

It's October, which means that it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One startling statistic I've recently learned - one in eight women will develop breast cancer. How scary is that?? Being surrounded by women, and girls (and hello - being one myself!) I am happy to support any organization that provides funds and awareness to this horrible disease, especially since we recently lost my sweet Auntie Joy to a long battle with breast cancer. I'm sure you're seeing seeing pink ribbons on every product, but unfortunately many of those products do nothing to support BCA organizations at all, but are instead trying to make a profit off of people's goodwill. Please, please before you buy anything with a pink ribbon on it (and the intention of having a portion of your purchase price being donated) make sure to read where they're donating funds to, and what percentage they're donating (if any at all.) "Pink washing" is very real, and some crappy companies try to make money off of people's good hearts.

Without further adieu, here are some awesome products, made by awesome companies, that are giving a significant amount back:

Stella & Dot - I am so beyond proud to work for a company that does SO much good! 100% of the net proceeds of our Hope necklace, and brand new Inspire and Strength Bracelets will go to the Noreen Fraser Foundation.

Lands End is donating 75% of the $6.00 embroidery application fee will be donated to breastcancer.org. Just order and apply one of the six pink icons on any Lands’ End item that can be embroidered and the donation will be made.

You can also share your #PinkThread by tagging a photo of who or what your “Pink Thread” is, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using @LandsEnd and #PinkThread and they will donate $1 to BreastCancer.org for each photo posted (up to $10,000)

Tweezerman is donating $2 from the sale of every pair of limited edition BCA tweezers to various breast cancer organizations.

SaSea Designs has designed the cutest shirt, and 100% of the proceeds are going to   The Cancer Support Center on behalf of her friend, Kelly, who is currently battling the disease. (You can read about Kelly's journey HERE)

Bobbi Brown is donating $12 from every set of the "Pretty Pink Ribbons" collection to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (and wowza, are those colors gorgeous!!)

Aveda is donating $4 from the sale of their limited-edition Hand Relief to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (up to $305,000)

Tieks donates to breast cancer research, and various charities year-round and is asking their customers to join them in wearing ballerina pink Tieks this month to bring awareness to breast cancer!

I know that I missed a bunch of products that give back, so please feel free to leave them in the comments! Prayers to all of those who are fighting, won their fight, or lost their fight. Prayers to their families, and prayers to everyone who has been affected by this disease.

BCA Product Round Up

As you probably know, October is breast cancer awareness (BCA) month. You probably can't go to any store without seeing pink ribbons on every product, but unfortunately many of those products do nothing to support BCA organizations at all.

I'm proud to let you all know that this month, in lieu of a discounted "lippy of the month" I will be donating 100% of the proceeds of Lulu - our pinkest pink - to Bright Pink. They are an awesome organization that focuses on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women, while providing support for high-risk individuals.

Below, are a handful of other awesome products, donating proceeds:

KIND is joining radiation oncologist, Dr. Elizabeth Thompson to create a first-ever limited-edition Breast BFFLBag®, which includes Dr. Thompson’s doctor-curated BFFLBag® recovery products. The bag directly provides comfort and care to women recovering from breast cancer surgery (rather than being an arbitrary item colored pink).

For every bag sold in October, KIND will donate an extra $5 to Friends Fighting Breast Cancer. People can purchase the bag for a woman in their life who is recovering from breast cancer or purchase one to donate to an anonymous, deserving patient.

Bobbi Brown will donate $10 (of the $45 purchase price) of their limited edition "French Pink" blush and brush to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Donate $5 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and Ulta will give you one of these adorable bracelets (four different options!) In store, and online.

I know this list just barely scratches the surface of the many wonderful companies donating to various Breast Cancer Awareness companies. If you know of any other ones, please link it up in the comments! And be mindful when shopping - that little pink ribbon slapped on a water bottle is just to make a bit of extra cash, unless the merchandise states where they are donating to!

Shop for Good - Breast Cancer Awareness Products 2012+ a giveaway

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and with breast cancer affecting so many people (not only the ones who are diagnosed with it, but their families) I think it's so important that we have a whole month dedicated to it. There are SO many companies (large and small business alike) donating money to various breast cancer organizations. But on the flip side, there are some just trying to make a quick buck. I was shopping last week and saw a cute reusable coffee tumbler with a breast cancer ribbon on it. Then I looked at the label and in the crazy tiny print it said "No money donated to breast cancer organizations." I was shocked, and wanted to point out a handful of businesses (my own included) donating funds to breast cancer.

Glitter and Gloss: 100% of the proceeds of The Mary Ann and The Shannon benefiting Bright Pink

L'Bel: 15% of October's proceeds will go the the Avon 3-Day Walk for Breast Cancer

Stella & Dot: Several products benefiting the Noreen Fraser Foundation. My particular favorites are the Bryant Scarf and the Luna Wrap Bracelet!

Mae B: 100% of October's proceeds donated to various breast cancer donations, and 15% of Mae's Mary Kay proceeds will be donated as well.

OPI is donating $25,000 to the Susan G. Komen foundation, and has an adorable limited edition set available!

babEblessings is donating half of the proceeds of THIS print to CIBC Run for a Cure.

Poofy Cheeks is donating 50% of her awesome set of pink hair ties to a local Making Strides for Breast Cancer team.

Shop my picks:

K. Slademade is donating 10% of the purchase price of every pale pink product to the Susan G. Komen foundation.

Nordstrom has lots of different brands donating proceeds to various Breast Cancer Awareness groups and charities. Check out some of the beauty brands HERE!

And last, but most definitely not least, Dr's Remedy has three gorgeous, good for your nails PINK shades, in which 10% of the proceeds from the sales of three pink shades to Living Beyond Breast Cancer, an organization who ensures that women who are newly diagnosed, in treatment, beyond treatment, at high risk or living with metastatic disease are well cared for by providing educational resources and support services relevant to their age at and stage of diagnosis. The shades are:

HOPEFUL Hot Pink: A Hello Kitty-meets bubble gum shade
NURTURE Nude Pink: A damsel-in-distress, barely there beautiful
PURITY Pink: A ballet slipper, sheer hue

....and Dr's Remedy is generously giving a set to one of YOU! Dr's Remedy products are absolutely amazing, made with natural ingredients, and created by (you guessed it) two doctors.
